Description
The THAT 1583 is a versatile, high performance current-feedback amplifier suitable for differential microphone preamplifier and bus summing applications. It improves on previous, traditional current-feedback designs (viz. THAT’s 1510 & 1512) by offering a more versatile configuration that can yield lower noise at low gains, lower distortion overall, and higher slew rate.
Amplifier gain is determined by three external resistors (RA, RB, and RG). This makes it possible to optimize noise and bandwidth over a wide range of gains, as well as optimize the taper of gain vs. rotation in variable-gain, pot-controlled applications.
In addition to analog-controlled applications, the 1583 is designed to mate perfectly with THAT’s series of Digital Preamplifier Controller ICs to produce an optimized, digitally controlled preamplifier.

1583/5173 Digitally-Controlled Mic Preamp Demo Board – A THAT Digitally-Controlled Mic Preamp Demo Board (US$250) allows developers to evaluate the performance of the THAT1583 / THAT5173 chipset. The demo board provides a balanced audio input on a Neutrik “combo” connector with 48V phantom power, and a balanced audio output on XLR and ¼” TRS connectors. The supplied graphical user interface (GUI) controls all functions in the 5173 chip via USB. A prototyping area is available for adding or modifying circuitry. See the 5173-DEMO Datasheet for more information.
1583 Surface Mount Adapter Board – For our integrated circuits which are only available in surface mount packages THAT Corporation offers adapter boards which allow one of these surface-mount ICs to interface to a circuit board via traditional thru-hole mounting. These adapters make it easy for a design engineer to evaluate our surface-mount products on a prototype board without having to employ SMT technology. Adapter boards are available to qualified applicants.
Harsh Environment Packaging – TT Semiconductor repackages THAT Corporation’s IC products in ruggidized plastic for the medical, aerospace, defense, and heavy industrial marketplaces.
