THAT Introduces New Low-Cost Analog Engine® IC
Frankfurt, Germany, March 29, 2006 – THAT Corporation (Musik Messe Hall 5.1, Booth D88) unveiled today its latest IC dynamic processor in the Analog Engine® family. Developed as a flexible but low-cost solution, the THAT4305 was specifically designed for high supply-voltage applications under tight budget constraints.
THAT’s president, Les Tyler, explained the rationale behind the new part. “To keep its cost down, the 4305 pares down the Analog Engine to the two essential building blocks necessary to make any dynamic processor – a voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) and a log-responding detector. As you might expect from us, our detector is log-responding, true RMS, and covers over 60dB dynamic range. The VCA is pre-trimmed and exponentially controlled – a true Blackmer® VCA – with excellent dynamic range, low distortion, and a wide ±60dB control range. Moreover, like others in the Analog Engine series, all the VCA and detector connections are brought out so designers have total control over the resulting processor’s configuration.”
Gary Hebert, THAT’s chief technology officer, stated “The 4305 can be configured as an above-threshold compressor, noise gate, companding noise reduction system, and much, much more. This flexibility really sets THAT’s parts apart from other offerings, which are much less configurable.”
Tyler added “The 4305 is tiny, housed in a 16-pin QSOP package the size of an SO-8. And, it’s inexpensive. At $2.59 in 1k quantities, it’s like getting an Analog Engine for the price of one of our mid-spec VCAs.”
Production quantities of the THAT4305 are available immediately. The 16-pin QSOP package complies with RoHS requirements, and is compatible with both lead-bearing and lead-free soldering processes.
