THAT Introduces Low-Cost Space-Saving Balanced Input ICs

THAT 1253 Balanced Line Receiver

Frankfurt, Germany, March 29, 2006 – THAT Corporation (Musik Messe Hall 5.1, Booth D88) is introducing a series of new low-cost, space-saving, balanced line receiver ICs. These are self-contained differential amplifiers preconfigured for gains of 0, ±3, and ±6dB, intended primarily for use as audio balanced line receivers.

Les Tyler, THAT’s president, said “these parts offer great audio performance with decent common-mode rejection, at a price that makes them an attractive, space-saving alternative to conventional op-amps. The 1250-series delivers a complete balanced input stage in an 8-pin package, selling for only $0.50 in quantities of 1000.”

Gary Hebert, THAT’s chief technology officer noted, “these ICs live up to THAT’s usual performance standards. THD is a low 0.0006%, bandwidth extends beyond 8MHz, and slew rate is a high 12V/µs. We cut our costs by eliminating laser trimming, relying on the inherent matching of our Si-Chrome integrated thin-film resistor process. Our process delivers native enough precision to compete with conventional 1% resistors.”

Hebert added “the 1250-series’ common-mode rejection is guaranteed to be over 40dB, and usually beats 50dB. Compare that to the 36dB worst-case CMRR you get with the usual opamp plus 1% resistors.” The 1250s are made using THAT’s proprietary dielectric isolation (DI) process in THAT’s Milpitas, CA. semiconductor fabrication facility. Mr. Tyler said that, due to the DI process’s ability to deliver discrete device performance, “these parts sound like discrete designs, with the size, reliability, and convenience of ICs.”

The THAT 1250-series is available immediately in RoHS-compliant 8-pin DIP and SO packages. The family features versions that are pin-compatible with similar offerings from TI and Analog Devices, but includes a -3dB version that is unique. This version offers the best tradeoff between noise and headroom for most pro audio applications. Samples, data sheets and additional information on the 1250 series and other THAT Corporation ICs are available at THAT’s stand at Musik Messe or on THAT’s web site at www.thatcorp.com.
