THAT IC Fab Names New Chief Process Engineer
Milford , MA – In a move which promises to strengthen THAT Corporation’s expertise in the manufacture of integrated circuits for the professional audio market, the company has announced the appointment of Dick Thornton to the position of Chief Process Engineer.
As Chief Process Engineer Dick will be responsible for all aspects of our wafer processing. He will be in close contact with the design engineers in Milford, working with them on new IC layouts, yield improvements and process development. On a daily basis he will support the production employees at the fab, write process specifications and assist in the training of the operators.
Dick has 20 years experience in engineering in the semiconductor industry. After a start at National Semiconductors, he worked for 19 years in a variety of functions at the Sipex fabrication facility in Milpitas California which, not coincidentally, was purchased by THAT Corporation in 1999 and is where most of our ICs are fabricated.
According to Les Tyler, THAT Corporation’s President, “Dick’s long history at Sipex and his hands-on experience with the DI process makes him a rare and valuable addition to our IC Fab facility. Dielectric isolation (DI) fabrication, is an advanced process technology that provides higher device-to-device breakdown voltages, better isolation between individual transistors, and faster speeds. The process is critical to the manufacture of our pro audio ICs and Dick’s expertise with it gives us an important edge.”
Dick and his wife, Toni, have two daughters. Dick is an avid skier, sailor, white water kayaker and mountaineer.
